React

I ride my bike to and from work everyday. Today, I had to work at 5 am, which means that it is still dark outside. I always ride with lights when I need them. This morning was no different, I left about 4:30 in the morning. About a mile away from my house, I came upon an intersection. As I rode through the intersection, I noticed that an SUV was approaching to turn right. The SUV was going a little too fast to come to a stop in time and the driver locked up the brakes of the vehicle. I had just enough room and time to swerve to the left in order to miss being hit. As I moved over quickly, I looked to my right, as I was expecting impact and pain. Luckily, the vehicle missed me by inches and I was relieved. My heart was racing and my body was full of adrenaline. I thought that I was going to spend the day in the hospital, but it turned out to be just a close call.

  1. I am glad you came out of it okay! That was such a close call. I bet you were awake for the rest of the day after that! That is great also that you are being safe by using lights. Do you also wear a helmet when you can?
My boyfriend had a similar expierence but he had actualy gotten hit. The bike he was riding to work bent in half and he got thrown on the roof of the car, but he walked away. Then he got to work and called me saying that the whole town fire and police departments had shown up just to make sure he was ok! :) Thank god!

  2. Tim,

Wow! Thank you for describing your harrowing experience--your readers are grateful that you are here to tell the tale!!

So often, we assume our life and well-being are completely in our own hands. And then, we discover how fragile our well-being is.

I am glad that you are here, Tim!
